Lynx are very rare in the lower 48. Montana by far boasts the largest and healthiest population, but even so, estimates are only around 300 animals. The last 2 years I've focused a majority of my winter efforts on capturing these elusive carnivores with camera traps. After much research, and countless miles of scouting on skis, everything finally came together for me when I captured this young Lynx passing by one of my cameras under the cover of darkness.

Thats a fantastic image Zack. All the hard work is soon forgotten when you get images like this. Great lighting and starry sky really adds to the image.

For sure, thank you. I find the lighting to be the trickiest part sometimes, especially with snow. Very difficult to get it to not be so artificial looking.

I agree Zack ... dealing with snow and lighting is tricky. It worked great tho in the shot. Well done.
